UEM Sunrise Welcomes Harvey Norman as Anchor Tenant at The Beat 2.0 of Kiara Bay

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 June 2025 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or “the Company”) via its joint venture with Melati Ehsan Holdings Berhad under Mega Legacy (M) Sdn Bhd (“MLSB”), has officially handed over the completed standalone building at The Beat 2.0 to Harvey Norman Malaysia. This milestone marks a key step forward in activating the Kiara Bay township and cementing its status as a sustainable lifestyle destination in Kepong. Spanning approximately 43,000 square feet of retail space, this outlet is Harvey Norman’s first standalone, solar-powered store in Malaysia and is slated to open this October.
The Beat 2.0 features a two-storey retail block anchored by Harvey Norman, complemented by eight double-volume retail units and one standalone unit. It builds on the success of The Beat, which has enjoyed full tenancy since December 2023, led by anchor tenant Village Grocer. The Beat is also home to brands such as Starbucks, Yin’s Sourdough, Inside Scoop, Murni Discovery and Common Space.
The Beat and The Beat 2.0 serve as the commercial hubs of Kiara Bay, offering dining, events and eco-friendly spaces by the lake at Metropolitan Kepong Park and the adjacent AVA Residensi. This steady growth reinforces Kiara Bay’s potential as a thriving lifestyle destination, where retail, recreation and residential living come together to form a vibrant, connected community.
Dato’ Sr. Azmir Talib, Chairman of MLSB and Independent Non-Executive Director of UEM Sunrise said, “The handover of The Beat 2.0 marks a key step in realising Kiara Bay’s vision as a connected, liveable and sustainable township. With Harvey Norman’s presence, it enhances The Beat 2.0 appeal as a home and lifestyle destination, drawing both residents and new footfall to the area. This milestone reflects our commitment to building purposeful, community-focused spaces as Kiara Bay continues to evolve and grow.”
Bernice Kwok, Managing Director of Harvey Norman Singapore and Malaysia said, “Set within The Beat 2.0, this store reflects the shared commitment between Harvey Norman and the developer to create more responsible retail spaces. It also ties in with our wider push for sustainability, from promoting energy and water-efficient appliances, to offering products made from eco-friendly materials.”

In conjunction with the key handover ceremony, a signing ceremony was held between MLSB and BM Green Energy Sdn Bhd (“BM Green Energy”). This signing marks the installation of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) panels at The Beat 2.0. This initiative reflects UEM Sunrise ongoing efforts to embed meaningful ESG practices across its developments, in line with the company’s sustainable agenda.
A total of 1,209 PV and 1,840 BIPV panels with combined generation capacity of 1,890 kWp, will be installed on the rooftop and car park structures of The Beat 2.0 by BM Green Energy under a sustainable power purchase agreement with zero capital expenditure.
Meanwhile, The Beat is equipped with 1,702 rooftop PV panels, generating up to 1,004 kWp. Since energisation in March 2025, the system is expected to cover approximately 26% of the retail block’s total energy needs. It also reduces CO2 emissions by average of 80 tonnes per month.
These environmental initiatives reflect UEM Sunrise’s broader ambition to position Kiara Bay as a leading model of sustainable urban living. With EV charging stations already in operation and more on the way, the township continues to advance its ESG agenda with purpose. As Kiara Bay grows, it remains committed to delivering thoughtfully designed spaces for today and generations to come.
